Library Book Sale 2010
Date: Saturday, 10 July 2010 – Sunday, 11 July 2010
Time: 9.30am – 8.00pm
Venue: Singapore Expo Hall 6A
Free Admission

English and Chinese books will cost $2 per copy;

Malay and Tamil books will cost $1 per copy;

English and Chinese magazines will cost $5 for a pack of 10 issues; and

Malay and Tamil magazines will cost $5 for a pack of 20 issues.

Read a story with your dad and fill up the Book Review card and get a chance to win some book vouchers.  Copies of the form can also be found at the school library. Submit the review forms to the school library by 30th June. You can send in as many entries as you want.

The school library is open for parents to visit with pupils of the school during the June holidays.
Wednesdays 9.00a.m. to 3.30p.m.
Saturdays 9.00a.m. to 12.00p.m.

Terms & Conditions:
1) Children must be accompanied by parents/guardians for the visit.
2) Pupils of the school must be dressed in school attire.
3) Pupils need to bring along their school library cards or EZ-link cards to borrow books.
4) A pupil of the school can borrow 2 items for a period of 2 weeks.
5) Books are to be returned through the “Book Drop” located just outside the library.
6) Payment of fines for lost or damaged books are to be made to the school librarians during weekdays.
7) Please help your children practise good library etiquette so that the library remains a conducive place for all library users.

Give a book, get a book at the Book Exchange! Drop off your used books* at any Public Library from 10 to 23 April, 11.00am to 9.00pm and get a coupon for every book** accepted. Bring your coupon down to The Plaza, National Library Building, on 24 April to redeem for new reads.

*We accept children's and adults' fiction and non-fiction books (eg. Cookbooks, travel guides and romance novels) in any four official languages. Books in other languages will not be accepted. We also accept used library books bought from previous Library Book Sales. Textbooks, magazines and audio-visual materials are not accepted. Used books for exchange should be in relatively good physical condition.
**Each person can exchange up to a maximum of 30 used books.

International Friendship Day celebrations take place every year. On this day, people spend time with their friends and show love and care for them. Exchange of gifts such as flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular practice. Most countries celebrate this special occasion, including Singapore.

Gift is not the only way to express love for one another during International Friendship Day. Respecting other people's races, customs, religions and practices are important. There is a saying "To earn respect, you must first respect others." We should also not take things for granted or take advantage of those who have helped us.

I am lucky to have a lot of good friends around me. Some of my teachers treat me like a friend too. We are close to each other and share our joy and laughter together.

There is a poem about friends that I'd love to share here.

The best of friends,
Can change a frown,
Into a smile,
When you feel down.

The greatest gift a parent can give to a child is the love for reading. Children are made readers on the laps of their parents. Reading to your child is also a good activity to bond with your child. Hence, in our efforts to further promote reading and inculcate the reading habit in our children, the school library is now open on every Saturday in Term 2 (except 1st May) from 9a.m. to 12p.m. so that you can bring your children to the school library and "Read With Your Child".

On 10th April 2010, Saturday, some 30 parents attended the "Raise A Reader" Workshop by NLB at the school library while their children were involved in a story-telling activity and craft activities conducted by the librarians from National Library Board. Parents enjoyed a fruitful 2-hr session with lots of the stories and sharings done by the librarians. They picked up valuable tips on selecting suitable books for their children according to their children's reading levels.

We were also pleased to take the opportunity to launch the opening of the school library on every Saturday. The school library is now opened to parents and children on every Saturday to allow parents to "READ WITH YOUR CHILD". The greatest gift that a parent can give to a child is the love for reading. Indeed, children are made readers on the laps of parents. Moreover, reading for your child is a good activity to bond with your child.

So bring your child to the school library and "READ WITH YOUR CHILD" this Saturday!
